| Building community, identifying issues and struggles and working towards sustainable change takes time. Most of the projects the Foundation Lab engages in are long term. There are times, however, when the work we do can be a part of a larger vision by the community. In that case we offer the following ways of engagement.
Each project is unique and has unique requirements. Contact us if you have questions about how this arts based approach might work for you and your organization. |

| | Half Day Workshops
Half day workshops tend to be an introduction to the work and the techniques. The 3 hour workshop is tailored to the needs of the community. It would involve games, conversations for change, exploration of issues and generally a lot of fun and challenge.
Who this is good for: Organizations/groups that would like to build an understanding of the dynamics in their teams. Teams under stress, teams that need to bond.

| Week Long Workshops For groups without the luxury of time but the desire to explore the issues of their organization or community, this workshop is for you. After an intensive week of group building and exploration of the stories and issues, the group presents a forum for engagement in which the greater community becomes activated as agents of change.
A highly dynamic and powerful process.

| Week Long Facilitator Training
The best way to understand the techniques used by The Foundation Lab is to participate in a week long intensive workshop. This exposes potential facilitators to all the techniques, philosophies and process.
Training is based on Theatre of the Oppressed (Augusto Boal), The Change Lab (Adam Kahane) and Scenario Planning.
Week long workshops are held twice a year. A waiting list is kept. If you are interested in training in these techniques please contact the lab to be placed on the list.

| | "I had the privilege of working with Mariette when she instructed me in my first Theatre of the Oppressed training session. I was instantly struck by her warm and welcoming presence. She was insightful, dedicated, humorous and direct. She led the workshop with a sensitivity and experience that I wished I could one day emulate. My training with her was instrumental in helping me head a Theatre of the Oppressed project in Toronto. Her workshop and training remains the fundamental basis for all I have done and will continue to do with future Theatre of the Oppressed projects. I couldn’t have ask for a more incredible experience and teacher."

| Weekend Workshops - Facilitator Training
These weekend workshops explore the core elements of The Foundation Lab. They are build in modules with intention of building upon each module.
Conversations for Change:
A fun engaging experiential process using play to evoke story and unveil hidden personal philosophies. By the end of this two day process practitioners will have tools to take back to their classrooms, organizations or communities.
Images and Myth:
This weekend sees practitioners builds on Conversations for Change. Image and myth explores story telling through non verbal work. This tool is extremely evocative as humans are natural story tellers. This is a very visceral way of getting to the truth of community concerns. By the end of the workshop practitioners should be comfortable with using image work.
Forum Theatre:
This weekend will explore Forum Theatre, as created by Augusto Boal and adapted for work in North America by Ms Sluyter. This tool identifies common stories and brings them to an audience in order to assess their adaptivity for the future.
The audience is then asked to create change where applicable. This is an excellent tool for community engagement.
By the end of the weekend participants should feel comfortable building forum theatre. Please note, Image and Myth and Conversations for Change are neccessary to participate in Forum Theatre.
Each training session has a minimum of 8 participants to a maximum of 15.
